Although he was able to approach her, no one was able to touch him. He kept running. The woman took a photo of the dog and sent an urgent request to Mission Paws’ible.
One of the rescue team volunteers, Prue, walked to help the grieving dog. Bryan knew that to catch a dog, it had to be calmed down. He prepared a bowl of food containing crushed medicine. He then placed the cup in a place where the dog would feel safe enough to eat.
The wanderer was spotted eating in the garage hours later. When it was possible to approach because the dog was drowsy, Pryor was able to slip the leash around his neck and take him into their car. He was put in a cage. The dog was awake, but pleasant and calm.
Once back at the rescue centre, it was clear that this dog had a traumatic past. He was so afraid of people, that he was desperately looking for a place to hide.
But no one was going to give up on him. Whatever it is. He stayed in the clinic for three weeks to be treated for the plague around the clock, to be trusted by the people.
Bryan worked very hard to get him to trust people. She fed him with her hand, making sure he was a constant but subtle presence in her life. Pryor also bought him a pair of pyjamas so that the dog named Bel could warm up.
But despite Prue’s persistence, he admits that Bell never trusted him. That connection that Pryu longed for never happened.
In the video below, Prue confesses that he was so worried. He says that “this dog was unacceptable”. And that Bellie, through no fault of his own, was broken.
A woman named Kaho saw Bel’s photos on the Internet. He immediately turned to her. He approached Prue and asked if he could raise Bell. Pryor agreed.
The first days were terrible. Bell stayed under Caho’s bed and refused to leave. What Kaho thought would be a few days turned into weeks.
No matter what Caho tried, Bellie did not trust her surroundings or her foster mother enough to get out from under the bed except to go to the bathroom. Maybe Pryu was right. Maybe Bell was an “unacceptable, broken” dog.
But Kaho did not give up. He continued to approach Bell. But despite being gentle and patient, Bell just roared. Kaho felt defeated. His heart ached. He had no idea what to do next.
But Bell’s story does not end here. In our animal hearts we deeply believe that there is no broken dog, Kaho also believed that.
What happens next is unbelievable and should not be missed. Thanks to The Dodo video below, you can see for yourself Belle’s amazing transformation.
