Instead of being taken out of her nursery to a place where she could feel safe and loved, she was either ignored or put back in her cabin after a brief encounter.
Each of the asylum spouses was adopted one by one and left. Before Capone he was the only one.
It broke the hearts of the staff.
“For a long time, Capone was the only dog we had in the shelter,” Carly Quinn, director of the Ionia Animal Shelter, told The Dodo. “All the nurseries were empty, except for the sweet, calm, kind Capone.”
Capone was originally adopted shortly after arriving at the shelter, but was returned because he “got along” with another dog at home. Capone despaired. He was so depressed that he stopped eating.
“He lost a lot of weight because he just did not have the appetite he had at home,” Quinn said. “It was very difficult to force him to eat. We had to encourage him every day with feasts and wet meals. ”
Everyone could see that Capone not only lost his appetite, but also lost a piece of himself.
“She was heartbroken,” said Quinn.
Upon his return to the shelter after his adoption, Capone changed. “The Capone we met in 2017, the Capone we met in 2018, were two different dogs,” Quinn said.

Because Capone had problems with the other dog, which was supposed to be his eternal home, the shelter staff only wanted to adopt him into a home where he was the only dog. This was harder than they thought.
The staff constantly shared Capone’s photo on their Facebook page, hoping that the right person would see him, give him the life he deserved.
After the shelter was cleared, he stayed, and they were even more determined to accommodate him. Capone did not deserve to be left behind.
Finally, posting a photo of him on social media paid off.
Quinn checked their Facebook page և saw a message from a couple interested in Capone.
“They fell in love with his paintings, his story,” Quinn said. “[When] they came to our shelter that day, they had already gone to the pet store, they had made a special name tag for him, with their information.”
But everyone was so nervous.
After the second surrender, Capone became quite meticulous about who he likes and who he prefers to stay away from. What if he does not like his new potential parents?
Quinn practically held her breath.
He walked to Capone to meet the couple with their fingers crossed. Quinn said. “When Capone and I entered the lobby, he stopped and looked at Johnny and Ashley for a while. “They both knelt down. ‘Capone ran right into their arms.’
“It was really tearful,” Quinn added.
Even when Capone left, the staff was confused.
