Even though he suffered injuries himself, a 12-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero for protecting his siblings from a vicious dog attack.
Deacon Ashmore, a sixth-grader, and his two sisters and brother were out for a walk in their Detroit neighborhood when they were suddenly confronted by two vicious dogs.
Deacon stepped in front of his siblings without hesitation to shield them from the approaching dogs. Deacon’s five-year-old brother, two sisters, and a seven-year-old sister were also attacked by the two dogs at the time.
Deacon was attacked by the dogs as he stepped in front of them, allowing his siblings and other children to escape.
According to MSN News, Deacon’s mother Elisabeth Ashmore claimed that he “jumped in front of all the other kids and made sure they could run home really fast before the dogs got them.”
By hitting the dog until it let go, Deacon was able to stop one of the dogs from entangling his leg.
Despite the fact that there were no broken bones, his leg was severely injured, with a visible bone and a significant amount of blood.
According to his mother, the most pressing issue was whether any ligament or tendon damage had occurred.
His father went on to say that the injury could have been much worse if it had been just a few centimeters in a different direction.
Deacon was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he received injections for tetanus and rabies and underwent surgery to treat the dog bite wounds.
He spent the night in the hospital before being discharged the following day. He would probably need crutches for a few weeks.
To assist the family with paying for Deacon’s medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was launched, and more than $25,000 was raised.
Deacon’s father also mentioned that his son’s primary concern was whether his siblings made it back home safely, demonstrating his selflessness and bravery during the attack.
This was the attack that took place in May. The incident emphasizes the significance of responsible dog ownership and the necessity of taking action against individuals who permit their dogs to roam free and pose a threat to others.
