When the owner of this senior dog decided that he did not deserve his time, he left him in the rain in the church parking lot, writes ilovemydogsomuch.
He was so confused. He was blind and sick. He could not see what was happening or understand why he stayed there in the beginning.
He lay on the concrete in a terrible storm until someone finally entered the parking lot and found him there.
The good Samaritan called local rescuers in Houston, Texas, who immediately got in the car.
The rescuers already knew that the poor dog named Lucy was in terrible condition. His eyes were weeping from the infection, and all the bones of his body were trembling.
The old dog deserves to live the rest of their years feeling loved, but instead Lucy felt a burden.
Lucy was taken to a veterinary clinic where she was diagnosed with hospice. As his health continued to decline, medical intervention was needed only to keep him comfortable.
The veterinarian also said that he had diabetes. The rescuers cried, wanting to get Lucy in sooner. But at least now he would live his days feeling comfortable and well-groomed.
The rescue team turned to a woman who thought she would be perfect for Lucy. She is experienced in hospice care and this will give her an excellent care home. The woman visited Lucy at the vet and said she would receive her formally so that Lucy could spend the rest of her time on earth with her new family.
Lucy started having seizures. The veterinarian made sure he was as comfortable as he could take into account his fall. He could not walk on his own, but with his new friends, his mother cared that he spent time lying in the grass enjoying the rainy days.
The brave dog lived in a house full of love for a few weeks.
He probably smiled more in those few weeks than in his whole life.
Lucy finally crossed the rainbow bridge; while her new family was crying, she missed her very much, they were comforted by the fact that she left this world feeling desired, and cherished.
He died with dignity, despite what the master had chosen for him. Every animal is worth saving. Lucy sees her brave story below.
