Translucent jellyfish, with fish trapped inside it, washes up on beach

ART and NATURE

The dead jellyfish, which was recently consumed on a beach in the UK, shows its last meal – a whole, and instead the surprised-looking fish, with a simple call, reveals the shocking images.

The jellyfish is a compass jellyfish (Chrysaora hysoscella), named for its brown, V-shaped markings that resemble compass lines. The juvenile fish inside has yet to be identified.

Local professional photographer Ian Watkin discovered the strange ball on August 4 during a dog walk near Padstow, Cornwall, The Daily Mail reports. “It’s not what you see every day,” he said.

It is understood that juvenile fish seek refuge in jellyfish.

However, the defender became a killer for this particular fish, as experts believe that it died from the jelly would certainly have been gradually absorbed into its main abdomen, called the coelenteron, if the jelly had not been cleaned on land.

“Jellyfish are commonly used as a baby room by juvenile fish because they hide in their tentacles to protect themselves from killers,” says the Cornwall Wildlife Count on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, it looks like it stung like a compass dinner.”

Compass jellyfish, up to 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, are commonly found in British waters between May and October.

According to the Cornwall Wild Animals Trust, they feed on small fish, such as crayfish and many other jellyfish, and their bites can be very painful but not fatal to humans.

Fortunately, the unique photo was taken during National Maritime Week, founded by Wildlife Trusts, a team of UK Homeland Security teams, to highlight the diverse aquatic life off the British coast.
