Lost dog becomes hero saving family from housefire before reuniting with owners

The good deed of a lost dog in Virginia helped him reunite with his owners.

Family members of the Big Stone Gap have been alerted to a fire that broke out near their home last Thursday due to a stray dog, WJHL-TV reports.

The pooch, named Butter by Charity Golloway and her two children, had been spending time recently near their home.
The family thought Butter was a wanderer, so they built him an outdoor shelter with an electric lamp to keep him warm.

The lamp caught fire Thursday as flames melted the vinyl roof of the family home.
Butter alerted the family to the emergency by climbing over Galloway’s bedroom window, barking loudly.

“He knew something was wrong, someone should have known,” Galloway told WJHL-TV. “He is a smart dog.”

Galloway said there were no signals of fire when she woke up to the sound of Butter barking.

“If it were not for him, who knows what might have happened. “It could have been a lot worse,” Galloway said. “I’m really thankful for that stray dog that roamed my yard.”
