A doctor named Susana Somali was passing by a slaughterhouse in Jakarta, Indonesia, when a disturbing scene made her stop, writes ilovemydogsomuch.
For the first time in her life, Susanna noticed how the dogs were being slaughtered. Most of the dogs were screaming helplessly in their narrow cages, while the rest of the dogs were tied with plastic.
Susanna was shocked to see tears welling up in the eyes of the dog waiting to be killed.
He talked to a butcher and was horrified to find a large network of people involved in the dog meat trade. Or he could not find out the name of the butcher, he managed to save the dogs lined up for slaughter.
Gradually, Susanna learned that wealthy owners were willing to sell their dogs to meat traders. Most of the local stray dogs were also doomed as they eventually became stocks of the industry.
The severe intestinal condition of these victim dogs forced Susanna to open up to all the abandoned stray dogs in the sanctuary.
He started with 70 dogs, but now raises more than 1,400 dogs, many of whom he rescues from slaughterhouses across the city.
Its operating costs are over $ 29,000 per month.
In Indonesia, about one million dogs are brutally killed every year to “decorate the menus” of hundreds of “fine” restaurants.
The recent epidemic has only increased this number, as economically disadvantaged owners are more desperate than ever to sell their “overloaded” dogs.
Susanna’s ultimate goal is to eradicate traces of dog meat from the world. But with 20 new rescuers coming in each week, the problem is only getting worse.
Nevertheless, Susanna will be determined to stay on her path, continue to fight, and raise awareness about this ugly trade. We wish this wonderful woman success in her noble crusade.
