The family returns home a month after the fire and finds their dog waiting

TEST

A month after Camp Fire, the homeowner, who returned to see what was left of his property, was shocked and overjoyed that his dog had been rescued from a forest fire.

When Andrea Gaylord returned to her home in Paradise, California, she said her beloved dog, Madison, was looking forward to returning home.

“You can never ask for a better animal,” Gaylord said. “You really could not.”

Gaylord felt that Madison had survived the fire, so she contacted animal rescue volunteer Shayla Sullivan, who inspected their property.

Sullivan initially sought out and cared for Gaylord’s other dog, Miguel. Madison and Miguel are brothers.

Sullivan said he continued to inspect Gaylord’s property, leaving Madison, a mix of Anatolian shepherds, with food and water.

When evacuation orders were lifted, Gaylord went home to see the damage himself. Madison was there when he approached the property.

“Imagine the loyalty that hangs in the worst of circumstances, waiting here,” Gaylord said. “It was so emotional.”

The Camp Fire forest fire killed 84 people and destroyed 150,000 people in the northern California town of Paradise.
