Of course, it is not so easy to take care of senior dogs, especially if it refers to the ones who came from an abusive home.
All this causes quite a lot of psychological problems for them, including trusting people again.
Even going to a loving home will be difficult for them, because the violence used against them in the past cannot but leave their heavy consequences.
It was the same in Hero’s life, and fortunately, someone offered to accept that challenge. It was Rusty and Anna.
They were already parents to another dog, their Sugar Bear, and were looking to adopt another dog when they met Hero one day.
They knew from the first seconds that they should take him home.
His sweet eyes seemed to say “love me”. This guy really deserved another chance and they decided to do it without hesitation.
But before taking the dog home, there was “someone” who was going to be the final decision maker, which was their other dog of course.
They had high hopes that Sugar Bear would accept Hero. Therefore, their meeting finally took place. And what happened next was simply inexplicable.
To the couple’s surprise, Sugar’s eyes were just shining with joy. He was overjoyed when he saw Hero. The connection between them was born instantly and they were so happy about it.
After that they were always together and even slept side by side.
When the couple adopted the dog, he was about eight or nine years old, so they thought he might only have a few months left.
But the sweet dog lived in their house for another three years.
Thanks to their efforts, Hero’s last years were filled with infinite love, for which we are extremely grateful to them.
